SUMMARY:In-Person: Tai Chi - Meditation in Motion
DESCRIPTION:In-Person: Tai Chi – Meditation in Motion\n \nwith Marijke Eliasberg\n \nWednesday\, November 6th\, 13th\, 20th\, 2024 | 5:30pm – 6:15pm\n \nLocation: New York Insight at 115 West 29th Street\, 12th Floor\n \n\n \nIn the Insight or Vipassana meditation tradition\, we talk a lot about noticing the breath\, but what about the rest of the body? \nIn fact\, tai chi is often referred to as “meditation in motion.” This practice is one of slowing down while still feeling energized\, and learning to relax our muscles while maintaining precision. \nThis practice is well-suited to do before sitting meditation—tai chi is one way to get in touch with the wholeness of the breathing body. Some benefits of tai chi include improved muscle strength\, balance\, and flexibility\, and an increase in energy and focus. \nJoin Marijke Eliasberg\, a certified shifu (teacher) of tai chi\, to reconnect with your body and breath\, and empower yourself with basic tools to help maintain a balanced and healthy mind. Eliasberg is a long-time student of the tai chi Great Grandmaster William C. C. Chen\, and is excited to share the joys of practicing this art with the NYI community. \nAll are welcome! No previous experience with tai chi is required to join the sessions. \nThis offering is part of New York Insight’s Mindful Movement series. \nRegistration:\nPlease register below. If you are able\, registering at the “Supporter” level enables others to attend at the “Subsidized” level. Thank you for your generosity! (Please note that the registration price includes a base level of teacher support\, and you will have the opportunity to donate more after the program.) \nIf you are registering via a mobile device such as a phone or tablet\, you can scroll right and left and up and down within the below form if it is partially obscured or cut off.\nCLICK HERE to open the registration form in a new browser window.

SUMMARY:CANCELLED: And Now What: How to Bring Your Practice into Life
DESCRIPTION:And Now What: How to Bring Your Practice into Life \nwith Bart van Melik \nThursdays\, October 18- November 8th\, 2018 | 7:00pm – 9:00pm \nThis course has been cancelled\, and will be offered in the near future. \nHow do we bring practice into our everyday life in order to deepen our awareness\, moment to moment\, and cultivate a more integrated daily relationship with the Dharma? And Now What is a four-week course intended for those who have completed an introductory course in Insight or Mindfulness meditation\, or equivalent\, and is suitable for more experienced practitioners who wish to spend some time focusing on and deepening their practice. We will look at how practice “on the cushion” and in our daily life both work together to make our spiritual journey a lived experience. \nParticipants will practice listening deeply and developing trust in their own natural awareness. This includes learning about aspects of the Buddha’s teachings that can be used to support their practice. An important area of exploration will be on how clinging can be released so we can deepen our awareness and increase harmony and wisdom in our lives and our practice. \nThere will be ample time for sharing\, discussion and interaction in each class. \nThis class meets 10/18\, 10/25\, 11/1\, 11/8. \nThe registration fee includes teacher support. If you wish to give more in addition to the registration fee\, the total (registration fees and additional contributions) will be shared between NYI and the teacher(s). \nNote About Registration:\nNew York Insight Meditation Center is offering a new structure for registration. Members receive 15% off of the Sustaining Rate. \nNYI is committed to ensuring that our programs are available to all\, regardless of ability to pay. No one will be turned away for lack of funds. No financial assistance application is needed when registering for a program. \nWe offer new sliding scale fees\, and ask that you choose the highest fee you are able to afford based on your financial means. The Sustaining rate represents the actual program operating cost. If you can afford this level or higher\, you assist our efforts to offer reduced rates and support ongoing financial assistance. If you are unable to pay the Base Fee\, you can set up a payment plan or let us know how much you are able to pay at this time by emailing registration@nyimc.org. \nFor more information about our generosity policy and the sliding scale fee structure\, please click here. \n
