SUMMARY:Online: Meditating With Space
DESCRIPTION:Online: Meditating With Space \nwith Bodhipaksa \nSaturday and Sunday\, July 9th-10th\, 2022 | 9:30am – 1:00pm ET \nUsually our meditation practice happens “in here” — within the covering of skin that separates “us” from what is “not us.” But certain less well-known meditations in the Buddhist tradition involve an awareness of the space element\, and space knows no boundaries. \nWhen we practice being mindful of space\, several things happen. First\, the mind itself reveals itself to be spacious; rather than our awareness being a small container\, it turns out that it’s vast and open. Second\, within this open space\, our thoughts slow down\, and any thinking that remains becomes less compelling\, so that thoughts arise and pass away without disturbing our mindfulness. Third\, as we maintain an awareness of space\, the sense of there being a boundary between “in here” and “out there” can cease to have any meaning\, and our sense of self can radically change; the mind is calm and receptive\, and the heart open\, at ease\, and boundless. \nThis may sound advanced\, but over the course of this two-morning workshop\, Bodhipaksa will guide us step-by-step through a series of simple meditations that fundamentally change our sense of who (and where) we are. \nRegistration:\nPlease register at the highest level that your generosity offers.\nExplanations of levels follow below.\nIf you are registering via a mobile device such as a phone or tablet\, you can scroll right and left and up and down within the below form if it is partially obscured or cut off.\nClick HERE to open a new browser for an easier process.\nPlease contact registration@nyimc.org if you need assistance. \n \nRegistration Fees include Teacher Support\nNew York Insight Meditation Center has streamlined the registration fee levels. SUMMARY:Online: Holding Yourself Dear - The Buddha's Therapy for Loving Yourself
DESCRIPTION:Online: Holding Yourself Dear – The Buddha’s Therapy for Loving Yourself \nwith Melissa McKay \nSaturday\, July 16th\, 2022 | 10:00am – 1:00pm ET \n“I teach one thing and one thing only\, stress and the end of stress\,” said the Buddha. \nAnd the entirety of the Buddhist path is for this purpose – alleviating or totally eradicating stress. Meditation\, compassion\, generosity and ethical practices all serve this purpose. \nThe Buddha’s psychology is aligned with the natural law of cause and effect. He taught his followers how to sow causes and conditions that could alleviate stress naturally. \nHe emphasized that those who love and hold themselves dear would harm no one. When we don’t harm others we grow in confidence and feel at ease in any situation. This seemingly indirect way of building our self esteem and loving ourselves is applicable in all aspects of life. \nDuring this program we will explore the therapeutic tools of the Buddha and discuss ways of applying it to our life.
