The Four Noble Truths

with Angela Dews

Four Tuesdays: October 2nd, 9th, 23rd and 30th | 10:00am-12:00pm

The Four Noble Truths are not teachings to be accepted or denied. The Buddha offers them as tools for reflection and as a path for directly investigating causes and conditions that makes freedom possible. Although we are invited to practice a path of discovery, one will not find the end of suffering by traveling to the ends of the world; we need look no further than right here, in this very body and this very moment.

The First Noble Truth teaches us to understand that suffering exists, and suffering is not personal. The Second Noble Truth tells us to abandon the cause of suffering, which is grasping and reacting to desire. The Third Noble Truth guides us to directly experience that freedom is possible with the cessation of craving. The Fourth Noble Truth says that developing the Eightfold Path is the way to freedom.

Each class will include meditation and a talk that will serve as a prompt for discussion and further investigation.

The registration fee includes teacher support. If you wish to give more in addition to the registration fee, the total (registration fees and additional contributions) will be shared between NYI and the teacher(s).
