Tuesday Dharma Gathering

with Elaine Retholtz and Amy Selzer/span>

Tuesday, October 15th, 2019 | 7:00pm-9:00pm

The Tuesday Dharma Gathering provides an introduction to Insight Meditation, as well as an opportunity to meditate in a supportive environment. These teacher-led gatherings offer the opportunity to meet teachers, hear a dharma talk, and participate in a dialogue about how to apply the principles of Buddhist meditation to our daily lives.

If you are new to Insight, you can attend the Beginner’s Orientation to Insight Meditation for guided meditation instruction from 7-8pm.

If you are new to New York Insight or an experienced meditator, we encourage you to attend this open, community gathering and bring your friends. All are welcome!

Note About Registration:

Fee by donation: You can now pre-register by paying the suggested donation online for our Tuesday Dharma Gathering; as always you can just drop in and “pay what you can.” Whatever you offer is greatly appreciated and no one is ever turned away for lack of funds. For this event, all donations are shared between the teacher(s) and NYI.

If you have questions about your registration (cancellation policy, membership discount, email confirmation, etc.), please read our FAQs. If your question is not addressed in the FAQs, please email registration@nyimc.org.

Teacher(s)

Elaine Retholtz

Elaine RetholtzElaine Retholtz has been studying and practicing the Dharma since 1988. In addition to teaching Dharma at New York Insight, she is a certified Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction teacher and has a deep interest in helping students integrate mindfulness practice into daily life. Elaine is committed to deepening her own understanding of issues of diversity and the way racial conditioning in the United States affects all of us — both as individuals and in relationship to the institutions we are a part of, including New York Insight. She’s been involved in New York Insight’s diversity efforts for many years, serving on the diversity committee, and working with others to create spaces – for diverse groups of practitioners as well as for white practitioners meeting separately – to explore these issues within a Dharma frame.

Amy Selzer

Amy SelzerAmy Selzer has been practicing vipassana meditation since 2002. She has completed two year-long classes on Integrated Study and Practice with Andrew Olendski. Currently, she is part of the Community Dharma Leaders teaching program. She has led groups for the past 12 years and now teaches in several NYI sanghas. Amy’s former career was team teaching young children in an inclusion program comprised of children with and without special needs. In addition, she worked with and supported their parents. Her love of teaching continues. She is particularly passionate about the dharma and bringing it into the lives of the aging population as well as to all other practitioners.
