Opportunities at NY Insight

Grant Writer (Part-Time / Contract)

We are seeking an experienced and strategic Grant Writer to help rebuild and strengthen our foundation fundraising efforts. This is an exciting opportunity to play a key role in reestablishing institutional support, part of a larger effort to create a robust, generosity-based development program for a small, mission-driven nonprofit at a pivotal stage of growth.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide input into and help refine current foundation fundraising strategies
  • Research and prepare initial communications and proposals for identified foundation prospects according to defined timelines
  • Identify and qualify new aligned foundation prospects
  • Develop compelling letters of inquiry, full proposals, and grant reports
  • Collaborate with staff and volunteer leadership to clarify program goals, budgets, and impact metrics
  • Help build and strengthen internal systems to track submissions, deadlines, reporting requirements, and funder relationships

Qualifications

  • Demonstrated success securing foundation grants, preferably for small, growing, or start-up nonprofits — ideally within the health, wellness, or mindfulness sectors
  • Strong writing, research, and storytelling skills
  • Ability to translate mission, programs, and outcomes into clear, persuasive, and fundable cases for support
  • Organized, proactive, and collaborative, with experience building processes and systems to support effective grant development
  • Comfortable gathering and synthesizing information from multiple internal sources, including:
    • Identifying historical and current connections with prospective funders
    • Collecting internal data and program information
    • Communicating clearly across teams to shape cohesive proposals
  • Able to work independently while maintaining strong coordination with leadership

This role is ideal for someone who not only writes strong proposals, but also thinks strategically about positioning the organization for long-term institutional funding success — while rolling up their sleeves to actively engage and cultivate potential funding partners.

Anticipated Outcomes

1. Opportunity Identification

  • Develop a short list of five (5) near-term foundation funding opportunities in coordination with staff/teachers/board (based on current prospects in the pipeline).
  • Include deadlines and stated points of entry.

2. Qualification & Strategy Development

  • Prepare a brief strategy memo for each prospect outlining:
    • Any prior history with NYIMC
    • Potential personal connections (staff, teachers, volunteers)
    • Recommended approach to pursue the funding opportunity (LOI, phone call, etc.)
    • Estimated funding potential and realistic return on investment

3. Proposal Development & Submission

  • With input from staff/Board, draft and prepare initial communications, letters of inquiry, and full grant submissions.
  • With input from staff/Board, compile and submit all required supporting materials in alignment with stated deadlines.

4. Solicitation & Revenue Target

  • Continue to engage identified prospects throughout the funding request process.
  • Target a minimum of $20,000 in foundation funding in 2026 from the initial portfolio.

5. Pipeline Expansion

  • Identify and assess additional foundation and institutional funding opportunities.
  • Explore potential partnerships with aligned organizations to open new funding opportunities.
